Ken George, MCSE is Founder and President of NetSmart, Inc. His responsibilities include personnel and project management. Ken has worked with computers since 1972. He has experience in design and implementation of networks for the hospitality industry, retail establishments, medical office systems, law offices, colleges, Fortune 500 manufacturers, real estate companies, and non-profit organizations. His communications experience includes leased digital lines, leased analog lines, ISDN, Cable, DSL, ADSL, PRI, T-1 and Fiber.
Ken has thorough, hands-on server experience with Windows NT, 2000, 2003, 2008 and 2012 Server. He began supporting PCs with DOS 2.1 and has continued with EVERY Windows platform beginning with Windows 286. He has worked with routers, muxes, comm servers, dozens of hubs, modems, and bridges and is experienced with UTP, STP, Coax, and Fiber Optic. He has installed and supports routers from WatchGuard, Netgear, LinkSys, 3Com, Cisco, and Bay Networks. His broad knowledge and understanding of the industry have no doubt been helped by his participation in COMDEX, Windows World, and NetWorld + InterOP. By staying on the leading edge of technology, he has helped to "future-proof" many clients. Others may accomplish this with high priced "bleeding" edge technology, but Ken has consistently helped clients stay within budgets with "expandable" systems.
Hal Overman has degrees in both Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering from NCSU. He has been supporting clients for years, both PC and server support. Hal is also a DB programmer. He has a thorough hands-on knowledge of XenServer and VMware, helping clients leverage their hardware expense.
Hal has supported a variety of custom applications and hardware solutions, adding to his ability to figure out tough problems. His critical thinking has solved quite
a few major software issues. He's be able to make applications work in environments where the manufacturer said "It just won't work."
Mike Edwards has been with NetSmart, Inc. since 1997. He has extensive database experience. His education includes a Masters Degree in Math from UNC. He taught College Calculus before being lured to NetSmart, Inc. by the challenge of programming and network support. He has supported a host of clients from Windows 95 to VISTA, Server applications including Exchange 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 2000 and 2003, SQL, iManage, Docs Open, Veritas and Citrix. He has written VB and Access code for years, creating custom applications using DDE, ODBC and OLE to integrate Access with off the shelf applications such as STI TABS. Strong in Legal Application software, he supports Summation, USPTO and others. Mike is the "Jack-of-All-Trades!"
Eddie Field has a strong web background, having run his own web design business before coming to NetSmart, Inc. His Microsoft MTA certification shows his strong Microsoft support background in addition to his Mac abilities he gained through years of Mac support and web design. He supports Netgear and WatchGuard firewalls, Exchange mail systems, hosted and on-site, Linux POP/IMAP as well as Office 365 cloud based mail. The majority of his time is spent with a couple of non-profits where he is their sole server, firewall, AV, web, iPad, iPhone and PC support, giving him a broad base for system interaction, making technology integration simple and seamless for his clients.
Jay Carter has a solid 12 years in the IT support field, working both on-site and remotely during that time. His Windows experience goes all the way back to Windows 98, but also has experience with Slackware & Redhat Linux distributions. His networking experience includes installing and supporting Netgear, WatchGuard, SonicWall & Cisco firewalls, Netgear, UniFi, SonicWall & various generic wireless devices, and Cisco and Netgear managed switches. He supports Exchange, both local and hosted. He also has vast experience with malware diagnosis and removal. His background in programming computer chips in automobiles shows his knack for learning and troubleshooting all types of computer based programs and systems.
Vern Barnett began his career in the IT support field as a help desk technician in 1998, working with NT Servers and Unix systems. His affinity for solving problems on this basic level led him to full Desktop Support Technician just a few years later. With over 12 years of support experience since then, Vern has strong experience in networking, VLAN's, wireless access, SQL, SAN storage equipment, all Microsoft operating systems, and virtual environments. He brings a broad array of talents to the NetSmart, Inc. technical staff.
Scott Zerbe has an extensive Supply Chain Management and Sales & Marketing background. During his Supply Chain Management career, Scott led a global organization responsible for worldwide procurement, customer service and distribution. These responsibilities were the conduit between sales and a truly “satisfied” client. After transitioning into sales, Scott held various account management positions, selling value added hardware and software solutions. This career change afforded Scott the opportunity to interface directly with the decision makers and end-users of Fortune 100 clients. Scott brings this market experience and understanding of our client-centered focus to NetSmart, Inc.
Gene Bowers, CFO, works with clients on QuickBooks issues, helping them to properly setup and run a company or practice on QuickBooks Pro, versions from 5.0 to 2014. He manages the books for NetSmart, Inc., but more importantly for our clients works closely with them to provide reporting and accurate information on invoices and payments. He has an MBA from Wake Forest and is a Certified Management Accountant.
